This Laser is one of the most widely distributed solo handed sailing dinghy in the world with more than 180,000 boats. The Standard Laser is a solitaire designed by Bruce Kirby of simplistic conception, it is solid and easy to implement.

The Laser, thanks to its worldwide distribution, is a universal boat, which allowed it to be designated as a single-handed dinghy for the Olympic Games (standard for men, radial for women after the Moth Europe).

Transport is facilitated by a two-part mast, no need for a road trailer for the Laser, it can be transported on the roof of a car. The sail is slipped into a sheath on the unstayed mast, the Laser is a bit of an Optimist for tall people!

The versions of the Laser

There are 3 versions of the Laser to suit barges and helmsmen with different gauges. The hull is identical as are the fittings and appendages, only the sail and mast differ. The standard Laser is the most canvasy Laser, with a sail area of 7 m² it is suitable for heavier helmsmen from 70 to 90kg.

Then the Radial Laser is the "middle" Laser, with a sail area of 5.8 m² it is suitable for lighter helmsmen from 55 to 70kg.

And finally the 4.7 family, the smallest rig for smaller sizes.

The Laser is a strict one-design that puts all sailors on an equal footing. Rigging and hull come from a single builder, and the modifications allowed are minimalist and closely supervised by the gauge.
